Plum creek day 8

 Chapters 22 & 23

 

Today we opened with devotion and prayer !Our devotion today was all about not seeking revenge against those who wrong us ! This was a fitting topic for us since our family has been dealing with some bullying issues .... Our Scripture came for many sources so I am going to list our resources so you can look them up for yourself in the Bible !  Proverbs 25:21-22 ; 14:22 ; 20:22 ; 14:22 ; 6:16 ; 10:23 ; 24:17-18 ; 26:18-19 ; Romans 12:19 ; Mathew 18:22 ! I know this allot however the Lord has allot to say about vengeance's being His !!! Laura wanted to seek revenge against Nellie for embarrassing her and being very mean to her at her party ! Even one of the other guest suggested that Laura should have smacked Nellie ... Laura replied that she need not worry she would get her back just wait and see ... Laura was true to her word and did just that ! This led us to discuss what the Lord has to say about the things !!! Its wrong to seek revenge !we should pray for our enemies !We discussed how the Lord would deal with them and in the mean time kindness from us would hurt worse than any action we could retaliate back with !        

 I truly loved our chapters today !!! Nellie hosted a party for the girls at school to attend ! It was a great deal to be invited to such an event !Ma bathed the girls Saturday morning dressed them in fresh clean dresses and ribbons!The girls were in aw of the Olsen's home !!!! The luxuries they have that the Ingalls didn't have captivated Laura !!!The girls were invited to play in Nellie's room ! They were astounded at the little Noh's ark play set , the little toy soldiers , & Nellie's porcelain doll.

 It wasn't till after Nellie brought out a box holding her wax doll that Laura was in total aw at what her eyes were seeing ! When her hand reached out to touch her blue dress ! It was then Nellie screamed at Laura for touching her doll ! Laura was so embarrassed she sat in a chair looking at books till it was time for cake and lemonade ....

 The girls were at their very best ! Using etiquette and manners during their visit !!!!One thing I remember most is that at this point in Laura's life she had never tasted lemonade ! I loved her description !!! The following Saturday Ma let Laura and Mary throw a party at their house ! All the girls came from school including Nellie !!! Ma scrubbed the floors and shined he windows ! The girls enjoyed showing the girls their home ! Everyone loved it ! Everyone was mannerly except for Nellie ! She was very rude to Ma and told her that she didn't wear her best dress to a country party ... This made Laura seek revenge ! I wont spoil what she did !However I had to chuckle ! Ma set the table with her very best white table cloth, placed a blue pitcher full of flowers in the center of the table, and she served vanity cakes and cool cream ! Their party was a great success ...

 We had an awesome school day !!! We had our spelling test ! We are finishing up our Fanny Crosby book ! It has been amazing ! We made our own vanity cakes ! They weren't what I expected !!! They were fun to make though ! We will be planning a tea party of our own in a few weeks to brush up on our etiquette and manners ! We are excited this will be our first tea in our new house !We both feel like Nellie is a bully .... Sissy made a no bullying poster !We had an amazing day !I would like to end on a personal note ! Be aware of whats going on in your child's life !The words of others can lead to life changing things ... Eating disorders and suicidal thoughts are just two of the things that can stem from bullying .... Spread the word to stop this behaviour and encourage your child to open up and let you know if they are o wittiness some one else being bulled! As always thanks for sharing your day with us !

Prairie School Plum Creek Day 3

Chapters 19,20,&21

 Today we opened in prayer and devotion. Our devotion came from several scriptures ! Proverbs 12:1, 13:1, 13:24, 15:5&12, 22:15 & 28:23.We talked about the importance of respect !Especially for our parents and our elders ! This is a big thing in our home it was instilled to our girls from the time they could waddle ... Nellie Olsen however didn't have any respect for her parents, elders , or peers !!! Gods Word says we should love one another .... I feel we should show that in all aspects of life!

 I loved our story today !!! Laura and Mary would be starting school !!! Laura was very unsure of school at first !She thought she would miss the creek to much !

 The girls walked 2 miles to and from school each day by themselves .... They knew they had found the school when they heard the children outside !

 Their welcome was not one of friendliness!The girls were called names because their dresses were shorter than the city girls dresses ! One of the girls quickly came to the rescue ! Both Mary and Laura fell in love with school !Mary was much more advanced than Laura! Laura was the only one in her class that didn't know how to read !Before long she was reading simple words !The girls couldn't wait to tell Pa and Ma about their day !When Pa realized the girls were using the teachers slate Pa said he couldn't have that !So He took a dime out of his fiddle case and Ma wrapped it in a hanky and pinned it to the pocket of Mary's dress ! The very next day on their way to school the girls bought their very own slate to share ! However they didn't have enough money for the chalk !The girls didn't want to ask Pa for more money after he bought the slate for them!So they took Mary's penny she got for Christmas in the Indian territory to buy the chalk they needed !They would share Laura's penny !

 Laura enjoyed recess playing the games with the other girls ! However when Nellie Olsen realized couldn't make the girls to continue to play ring around the Rosy , after Laura suggested they play Uncle John... Nellie Pulled Laura's hair with both hands and stormed off and cried because she didn't get her way !I was glad Laura didn't let Nellie bully her !

 Today we talked a little more about Lichens and Sissy wrote a report about them !We studied the history of paper !the pros's and cons of having it !How slates were better for our environment !Also how paper had made so many other things possible !

 We looked up the definition in the American Dictionary of the English Language for school !It called it a vacation !We weren't to sure Laura thought of it that way!We worked on our other school things as well today !Sissy drew a picture of the inside of the Olsen's store ! We had an awesome day of praire school.... I can see each chapter play out before my eyes !!! I love how the Little house books come to life ! Can't wait to share the next few chapters with you guys !!!

 

Prairie School Day 5 Plum Creek

Chapters 16,17,&18

 Our devotion today came from Proverbs 22:7. 

 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servent to the lender.

 I guess you could say we talked today about living with in our means ! Not borrowing large amounts of money that we may not be able to pay back .... Not that there aren't thing that getting loans are good for ... Such as buying a home....The scripture is very true in what it is speaking of !!!!
 Todays chapters were almost as exciting as Christmas !!!Pa has started planting of the wheat feilds !!! He also planted oats and a garden for Ma !It was hard work ! Since there had not been enough snow the ground was dry .... Pa was often tired even to tired to talk ...However the wheat crop brought new promises to the Ingalls family !!! It ment a real house ! Not the dug out !A house made of mill cut boards, glass windows , a bedroom for Pa, Ma , and Carrie! The attic would be Laura and Marys room ..... It would have a lean to for storage... A family room !!!! The girls were filled with excitement!!!!! Pa was able to make all this happen with the help of a loan with the promise that when he made profit from the feilds he would pay his debt off . Pa even bought Ma a cook stove to cook on!!!! As a suprise to her !!!!The girls each had a box to keep there belongings in !!! Each bedroom had a closet for there clothes hang !!!Ma made cutains to hang !!!!The excitment was so great for this family !!!! After the girls moved Pa told them not to visit the creek close to the dugout no longer . But follow the path just outside the new house and see what they found ! Much to there suprise they found a stream to enjoy ! Both girls waded and teased a crawldad ! Till Laura ventured into some murky water she found that she had picked up some stowaways along the way .... Lichens had attached themselves to her legs and she no longer felt like playing .... When they arrived home Ma told the girls they would soon be attending school !!!!

 We learned about the medical uses of Lichens today ! We both agree that although they can be good we hope to never need their help !

 Sissy also wrote a discriptive paragraph on noises she heard ouside at night !

 She painted a watercolor today as well !!!!I hope next week to really get to do some prairie activities !!!!

Plum Creek Day 4

Chapters 13,14, &15

 Today we opened in prayer and devotion!!! I truly find this such an honor to have the privalge to do this daily with my daughter !!!!Our devotion today came from Psalms 139:13-16. We talked this morning about how God made us different ! There is no two alike !!! That each of us are uniquly made in the image of God and we are His master peice ! Laura and Mary are an awesome example of how God made us different.
 Today's reading was about Christmas preperations on plum creek!!! I look forward to the Ingalls celebrations in each book !!!!Ma encouraged Mary and Laura to ask for Christmas horses ! So the girls did ! Carrie was to young to understand what that ment so Ma asked the girls to make her a button string !!!! The girls were so excited about such an suprise !!
 They spent much time looking through Ma's buttons ! Stringing each one till it was perfect !!! The night of Christmas eve Ma hung Carries stocking, Pa asked Laura and Mary wern't they going to hang theirs ? They didn't quit know what to think because Christmas horses wouldn't fit in a stocking ! The next morning to their suprise they found candy and new horses in the stable !!! Pa let the girls ride them to get water that morning !!!!

 Our Next two chapter were just as exciting for spring was once again upon them and large amounts of rain came to the prairie causing the creek to rise through the night . The next morning the water was still rising causing a flood ..... Even as the rain fell from the heavens Laura couldn't help herself .... She went outside in the cold rain in her night gown and just stood there with it falling on her face ... Mary was suprised at her behaviour because proper young ladies would never do such a thing .....
 The very next day Laura ventured to out once again ! This time to the creek where the little foot bridge stands .... Laura was at first satisified watching the water lick the bridge ... Before she knew it she was on the foot bridge letting the water flow against her feet . Then she sat down and let the water roll over her legs .... Until finally she laid down trying to hold on to the rail and stuck her whole body into the rapids .... Barely holding on and almost to the point of drowning Laura descibed the water as icy shards ... The strong currents held her till she was able to pull herself back up .... Ma didnt punish her because she felt Laura had learned her lesson .... The water was much stronger than she was ....
 In todays reading Ma was reading the MillBank to Pa. 

We discussed the history of the book that it had such an impression on Lauras mind it was worth seeing what it was about !
 Sissy Also wrote an discriptive paragraph of one of her own experinces with water .
 We also spent some time in my button collection and made our own button strings !!!! We hing them from the ceiling fan in our school room !Thanks for sharing our days with us !!!Hope you enjoy the pictures below !!!

Plum Creek Day 3

On the Banks Of Plum Creek 

Chapters 7,8,&9

 Well we have fallen behind again due to illness late last week ! So we are picking up where we left off last week !Today we opened with devotion and prayer ! Our Scripture came from Mathew 18:6

 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

 Laura and Mary ruined a stack of hay Pa had piled up by jumping and sliding down the massive pile ! Pa had told the girls not to slide down the hay stack anymore because he had to stop his work and re stack the hay again !!!! The next day Laura wanted to smell the hay stack and before she new it she was climbing the hay stack again... Encouraging Mary to join her.... Before they new it they had tore the hay stack down again ....That night when Pa returned from the fields He asked the girls had they slid down the stacks again? They replied no Pa we rolled down the stack!!! Pa chuckled at the girls and told them not to roll down the stack of hay any more ... Because if they continued the cattle would not have food for the winter ! So the girls never slid or rolled down the hay stack again !

 Sissy and I discussed the importance not to encourage other to do wrong ... Through peer pressure .... Also we discussed the importance not to give in . We talked about the consequences that could come from both ... we both agreed the girls were lucky ... They didn't get in lots of trouble ....

 Our Chapters today were again very exciting !!!! The girls were given daily chores !Pa started his first wheat crop ! He discussed with the girls the importance of not plying with the farm tools !!!!The girls picked plums from the plum groves ..

 Today's Prairie lessons were busy !!!! We talked allot about animal classifications !!!! Also the life cycle of seeds and plants !!!

 We studied about Wheat the planting and growing process ! How the kernel is used to make flour !Also the other parts of the stalk is used in many other things such as kitchen cabinets .... Sissy drew a wheat plant and labeled each part and it importance ....We discussed the land and hard labor wheat threshing would have been by hand !How we are thankful God allowed new technology to make things easier !

 We discussed how creative God was to give us different types of the same fruits !this makes it easier for the farmer to grow his crops !!!!We have to take short trip to wally world after church we are going to get a plum to eat tomorrow and some apples to dry !!! We are excited to see how that works !!!

 We also discussed foreshadowing in stories. How it hinted at something to come !!!!She completed her scripture memory verse for the week and recited it out loud !!!! She recited Psalms 51:1-2 !!!! I am so proud of her !!!

 She completed a drawing of a tree she started last week as well ! She also added her own poem to the side of it !!! I thought I would share it with everyone!!! I may just have a writer and illustrator on my hands :)

 Have you ever noticed we are allot like trees ? God created trees to be strong! Just like He created us to be strong ! Even though trees get week and fall down sometimes.... God helps them to grow again , makes them stronger just like He made us ..

 He made their branches to be lifted up to touch the heaven to praise..... Just as we lift our arms to praise our King in heaven ! He made them to grow each day just like He made us to grow each day ....In faith in Him ! God planted the tree in rich soil just like we are planted in Gods garden in Heaven safe from harm .....By Christian Almond 14

On The Banks Of Plum Creek Day 1&2

Chapters 1-3

 We were excited to start back Prairie School after such an extended break ! We felt like the Ingalls family during our time of transition ! We are loving our new home and church and excited about our new journey ! Like always we started our day with prayer and devotion... Like all the other new things we started a new book as well !!!! It doesn't take Laura long to get herself in trouble !So yesterday we talked about complaining .... Pa had to remind Laura of all the things she had and not to concentrate on what she wanted ...We read in the Bible Number 11:18-20 we discussed the children of Israel's complaining and what God had to say about it  .... Today we talked about trust and how God uses the Holy Spirit to remind us when we are doing wrong .... Laura disobeyed Pa by visiting the swimming hole after being told not to .... Her conscious wouldn't let her sleep until she told Pa of her behaviour ! We used James 5:16 as our scripture today :

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

 We read Chapters 1-3 yesterday !!! We started the adventures On The Banks of Plum Creek ! We both were amazed at the new home the Ingalls would be living in for the next little while !They have traveled a long ways fron Kansas to Minnesota. Near the town of Walnut Grove ! Town would just be a short 3 mile walk from their home . I understood the excitement after living such a drive to town to have it just a few miles away ...   Pa traded a gentlemen for his land , stable, oxen and dugout. In return Pa gave him Pet , Patty, and Bunny the colt , and the Ingalls wagon .The land was a beautiful prairie land , with a stream near by , a grove of willow trees , and the Ingalls new home . A dug out in the ground much like what I know of a root cellar to be.Ma seemed happy with the new home she found it neat and tidy and would do until winter came .... Pa was excited about the land! He thought it would bring a good wheat crop ! That would mean more money than the family had ever seen !The girls loved the gay flowers and the creek they could play in! There was dangers here as well and Pa warned them never to go to the big pool of water alone ...

 We spent time learning about trees !!!How each and every part of the tree is important !!! We learned how tree are important to odour environment to provide oxygen and rid the air of carbon monoxide ! We discussed water purification ! Why its not safe to drink water straight from a stream ! The effects that could come from doing so ! We discussed how to purify water at home or on a hike if clean water isn't available . We discussed how the Ingalls didn't know the importance of water purification ! Sissy drew morning glories during reading time ! She is quite the artist if I do say so myself !!!

     Chapters 4,5,6

 Today's chapter were just as adventurous as yesterdays !!! Poor Laura jut can not seem to keep herself out of trouble .... Pa took the family to the deep swimming hole to swim in our first chapter !Ma told the girls not to go to deep!Laura couldn't resist though !!!with each step she went deeper and deeper !Till finally  she found herself in trouble ! Little did she know Pa had just dunked her !He told Laura the importance of doing what Ma asked her to do ! When the day was over Pa and Ma took the girls home and reminded them them they were to never ever go to the swimming hole with out him with them !!!! 

 The very next day Laura was enjoying playing in the prairie ! Looking on admiring the pretty butterflies , watching the fish in the stream , admiring the flowers in bloom !She became bored and thought how fun it would be to visit the tableland Pa had showed them the day before ! After all he didn't tell her she couldn't visit there .... So off she went ... She didn't find it as fun or interesting with out Pa or Mary ! Hot , sweaty , and itchy she found herself wanting to visit the swimming hole ! What could it hurt to visit as long as she didn't touch the water .... Or maybe just stick her feet in the water ... No one had to know ! Along the way she came across a strange grey animal ! It was enough to scare her into going home ! Laura told herself over and over that no one ever had to know she had went to the swimming hole ! Besides only her and the badger knew .... That night Laura was unable to sleep her conscious wouldn't let her .... She rose from her bed and told Ma and Pa what she had done .... Pa explained she had broken his trust as punishment the next day she would not be allowed to go anywhere Ma couldn't see her .... Which meant she spent the whole next day inside helping Ma with chores! The next day Pa took her and Mary to watch a cattle heard come in ! Pa surprised the family with the most beautiful Cow they had ever seen !!! This was a great surprise and joy for the family because it meant there would be milk and butter again !!!

  We learned about badgers today also butterflies what makes them so grand !!!! We talked about lichens that grow in the wild !How they are both fungus and algae .... There importance in the Eco system !!!!Sissy is also reading the biography about Fanny Crosby ! We have loved the new book and we re excited to see what adventure will find us tomorrow !!! I am even more excited to be blogging about our school days again !!!!

Transition

I am so sorry it has been awhile since our last update ! Our family had had alot on our plates the past month ! My husbands sweet Grandma graduated into eternity just a few short weeks ago ! Also The Lord has shown our family it was time to step out in faith ! So we resigned the church we have been apart of for the past 6 1/2 yrs ! 

It has been an emotional time for our little family ! Even though this has been a sad time for us, We are excited about the adventure the Lord is leading us on !!! 

So Our family will be packing our home up preparing for our move ! Much like the Ingalls !!! I didn't realize when we started the primer that the Lord was preparing us for our own journey ! I just wanted those who followed our Prairie School Days we haven't quit ! We have just took a break !We should be back to Prairie School around the second week of March ! 

I look forward to sharing our journey in the future ! 

 

Prairie School Day 24

Little House Ch 26

Today we finished thee Little House On The Prairie Book ! 

It was such a bitter sweet book ! It was almost like we were apart of the Ingalls family saying good bye to the little house that so much work went into to make a home ! Packing all their belongings back up in the covered wagon to head to Independence !

Our home is officially on Christmas schedual  starting Monday !!! I am really excited about this ! I purchased a book with all the Little House Christmas stories in it !!! We will read a chapter a week and do Christmas activities that go with that book for the week !!! We also purchased the Little House Christmas Craft book ... I have loved the simplicity of each Christmas we have spent with the Ingalls so far  !!! We will start back with the Banks of Plum Creek in January !!! I look forward to sharing Christmas with you guys !!! Blessings to all !!!

Prairie School day 23

Little House Ch 24 & 25 

 

Today we opened in prayer and devotion !!! Our devotion today was about how the American family had the upper hand when it came to their relationships with  the Indians because of it's size ! Communication and technology was important factors ! But the Indians felt threatened by the family size ! God ordained the family in the garden !!! He alone decides that ! I know there are lots of things now people use to control family size but then these things didn't exist ! We used lots of scripture today ! So I won't post the actual text . These are the ones we looked into ! Psalms 127:3-5 , 128:3-4, Proverbs 14:28 , Deuteronomy 6:3 and Job 12:23

Our story for me today was rather sad ! I feel the Ingalls felt the same ! The war cries had stopped the family had slept well yet again !Pa had plans to spend the day plowing ... As he went to get started he called Ma and the girls to the door to see !!! As they came to the door Pa saw the Indian chief that had passed in the midnight just nights before leading a Indian procession that would last long into to the day ! More Indians than just the Osage were heading west ...Pa showed his respect to the chief by saluting him ... It caused such a sadness for the family to see them go ! Laura envied the Indians they rode their horses naked and bare back in the sun ! she longed to do the same ! She even cried because she couldn't keep the little Indian baby !!! 

The next several days passed and the family returned to normal preparing the garden ! The Ingalls would eat as kings when the crops came in ! They had spent months eating only bread and meat ! Lacking major food groups such as fruits and vegetables ! 

One day as Laura and Mary were helping Ma with the morning chores. Helping Ma by washing dishes as she made the beds ! They heard Pa getting very angry outside telling Mr Scott and Mr Edward that he wouldn't wait for the soldiers to come they would leave on their own in the morning ! he wasn't waiting ! If the goverment hadn't said that they were getting ready to settle Indian property he sure wouldn't have settle three miles onto their land ! Now the government would make the settlers leave ! Pa wouldn't be made , he would just go ! He gave Mr Scott the Cow and Calf ! The milk and the butter as Laura said ! He told Ma they were leaving the next day ! He and Ma readied the covered wagon ! They would early in the morning ! Ma said to Pa it was a year wasted ... Pa told her all they had was time ...They would go tward Independence .... We spent time talking about the disease that the European Americans brought to them such as small pox , influenza , malaria , and much more ! Their immune system was not built to handle these disease ! We talked about the race for homesteads during this era ! We spent time on other daily activities !!!

My heart broke for Ma and the Indians today !!! They both were loosing so much !!! It was such an awesome reminder to be thankful for what we have !!!

Prairie School Day 22

Little House Ch 22 & 23

Today we opened in prayer and devotion ! Our devotion today we talked about there will come a day for those who aren't saved will also live a horrible day !!! Just as Laura described a living nightmare ! the only difference they wont be able to escape !!! We discussed the importance of praying for our lost loves ones !!! Our scripture verse came from Revelation Ch 6:15-17

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

¹⁶ And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

¹⁷ For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

Our stories today was yet again filled with adventure ! today started with a prairie fire !!! The Indians set the prairie on fire once a year so the grass would grow back greener and easier to travel on !!! Pa was plowing the fields when it happened and Pa and Ma had to scramble to dig a furrow and start a backfire !!! The backfire stopped the fuel of the lager fire and kept the Ingalls and their home safe !!! That evening Mr Edwards and Mr Scott came to see P and expressed that they thought the Indians had started the fire to kill or run the white people off the land ! Pa expressed he didn't think that was the case but Mr Scott said that the only good Indian was a dead Indian ! 

After the fire Mary didn't like to play outside ! Laura played outside by herself ! She said she often felt uneasy like some one was watching ! Over the next few days Pa and the family noticed more Indians than usual were coming in from all directions ! He assumed that they were coming together for their annual buffalo hunt ! However each the night told a different story !!! Laura awoke out of her sleep to the sound of Indian whoops and chants !!! She noticed that Pa was making bullets !!! More than usaual ! She didn't quite understand he was to tired to play the fiddle at night from being tired from plowing yet he was able to make bullets !?!?! The next night Laura described the sound that woke a something that was like a nightmare while she was awake that she couldn't escape !!! Each night the war cries become stronger and louder !!! Then one night Laura woke to the worst yet ! Pa was standing guard at the window ! with his gun Pa could tell that there was a band of Indians around the little house !!! Pa stood ready to protect his family ! In the distance Pa seen a Indian he met before on a black pony !!! Laura said the sounds that night were worse than ever before !!! However the next morning Pa seen bands of Indians leaving going in different directions !!! Pa told Ma it was over the Indians were fighting among themselves ! Later he went to the creek bottom to survey the land ! He met a Indian who talked his language ! He told Pa that the Indian he had seen rushed into the camps and convinced the Osage not to attack the white man !!! He told them if they did He would attack them  ! The other tribes left angry ! But for now they were safe and the Osage would not bring them harm !!!  Mr Scott and Mr Edwards came again to see Pa . He shared what the Indian shared with him !!! Mr Scott told him she would be happy to share that info with Mrs Scott ! That after the Minnesota Massacre she truly thought the only good Indian was a dead Indian ... these events lest the family tired and scared they were relieved the nightmare was over ...

We took time today to learn more about the Minnesota Massacre , we learned the purpose of forts , and learned about backfires and how they work !!! After studying the massacre I understood more why the white people felt the way they did !!! We finished our day with our other  school activities !!!! We had a wonderful day today ! God is good !!! hope everyone has a blessed week !!!

 

Prairie School Day 20

Little House Ch 18 and 19 

Today we opened in prayer and devotion ... Our devotion today was on justification ! We discussed just because we think something is ok doesn't mean it's ok in Gods eyes ! For example the government signed a treaty with the Indian's saying certain property belongs to them ! However the settlers took over their land for themselves ! Our scripture came from the book of Proverbs 21:2

 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.

Our chapters today were filled with excitement ! The Indians returned to the Ingalls home yet again ! The first time peacefully a tall Indian came and had dinner ! Jack still does not like the Indians ! Because of his fierceness towards them he has to be chained at all times ... After pinning and not letting the Indian pass ! Pa knew that if he attacked one of them it would have serious consequences! The next time they raided the home and took Ma's cornmeal and pa's tobacco ! They were going to take the skins Pa was saving to trade with ... but the Indians left them behind !!! The weather has turned cooler and Christmas is upon them !!!The girls are so excited !!! It has been raining fiercely and they are in hopes of snow !!! Because we all know as Laura put it the reindeer can't fly with out snow ! The heavy rains has caused the the river to rise and has made it to dangerous to pass !!! Pa told Ma Mr Edwards wouldn't be coming for Christmas dinner !!! Ma also told the girls that Santa probably wouldn't be coming either ! They were blessed little girls to have clothes , food , and shelter... Most of all parents that loved them and Santa would certainly remember them next  year ! That night Ma told the girls she would hang their stockings just in case ! Laura and Mary knew in their heart Santa wouldn't be coming ... Ma told Laura to go to sleep time would pass more quickly the sooner they went to sleep ! The next morning Laura woke to the sound of Edward calling from outside the door ! He had risked his life to cross the raging river to bring the girls their Christmas !!! He spent the morning telling the girls how he met Santa while Ma filled their stocking  !!! The girls were over joyed with their simple gifts !!! A new shiny tin cup one of their very own , a peppermint stick , a heart shaped sugar cake , and a shiny penny all of their own !!! Such meager gifts that they were so happy with !!! Mr Edward also brought Ma 9 sweet potatoes to go with Christmas dinner  !!! 

I am amazed at all the things we have today and still want more... The Ingalls truly lived in such a simpler time ! When nothing was wasted and they were grateful for all things big and small !!! There are great many lessons to be learned here ... We finished our day doing our everyday assignments ! We put Sissys Christmas tree up in her room today !!! We decorated our house earlier in the week for Christmas ! It seemed fitting that we read about the Ingalls Christmas today !!! I am excited about tomorrow we will be doing some Prairie cooking :) Hope everyone has a blessed evening ! 

 

Prairie Schoo Day 19

Little House Ch 16 & 17

Today we opened in prayer and devotion ! There wasn't a devotion to go with our stories today so we did a a devotion of choice ! About who is the the King of your life you ? or Jesus ? 

We read chapters 16 and 17 today ! Prairie life is so much different from the big woods ! even down to how Pa grew and prepared hay for the winter ! In the big woods he would have cut and stored the hay in a barn for the animals in the winter months ! At the prairie all he has to do is let the animals graze and and keep a small stack on hand for stormy days ! the warmer climate played a part in what kind of game pa hunted for ! It wasn't cold enough to keep the meet of a deer just yet ... The warm weather would spoil it ... So Pa hunted smaller game such as rabbit and ducks ... While pa was hunting today the chimney to the house caught on fire !! Laura and Ma acted quickly ... Quick thinking saved the Ingalls home !!! Pa prepared for a trip to Independence ! He needed more quinine for the family ! Since Malaria is caused by a parasite it is important to kill both host and eggs ... That also meant the Ingalls could be infected again .. Pa also needed to get the nails he owed Mr Edwards ! Tobacco he owed Mr Scott ! Also household items Ma needed ! He would be gone for at least 4 days ! He would ask Mr Edwards to keep an eye on ma and the girls ! Also help out with the chores ! When he returned home he brought the family a very special surprise !!! 8 glass squares for the windows in the cabin !!!!

Today we took the opportunity to make a bead necklace form our dyed noodles ! Sissy wrote in her Indian journal about what she thought of the white settlers in her home ! We learned about 3 types of trees Oak , Sycamore and cottonwood ! We did our spelling , math and Bible !!! 

Then we made doll sized moccasins ! I learned today she isn't very big on hand sewing ! She loves to sew on the machine but not by hand ! She told me she was sure that the Indians needles had to bigger than the one we were using ... All because they were made from bone so it must have been quicker lol ! So I will have to stay clear of hand sewing projects for awhile lol !!!

Prairie School Day 19

Little House Ch 14 & 15

Today we opened in prayer and devotion ! Our devotion today was on being neighborly...Mrs. Scott showed neighborly love by taking care of the Ingalls family while they were sick with the ague and fever ! Our Scripture came from the book Mathew 22:39 

 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Today we read about Pa taking the girls to the Indian camp !!! Ma was not to happy about this .... However the girls were super excited !!!  I loved the description of the the camps Laura used ! it was as if it was coming to life right before our eyes !!! From the description of the bones ... That told what the Indian's had eaten. To the tracks left on the ground from the Indian's and animals !!! The excitement of the girls finding the the beads !!! Then the irritation Laura toward Mary for being so good all the time ... leading up to her having to give her beads to Carrie as well !!! We took time to study more on the Osage Indians !!! We learned about foods Indians taught settlers about ! We discussed what their beads would have been made of... How they would have dyed them ! 

Then we dyed macaroni noodles and set them out to dry to use as a craft tomorrow !

Our next chapter started with Ma and Laura spending the day picking black berries !!! Laura described the swarms of mosquito's that bit them ! Also how they invaded their home in the evenings .... It didn't take long for the Ingalls to get sick from all the bites ! It started with Laura ,then Pa then Mary ,the Ma !!! Laura described being in and out of consciousness ... Just hearing voices not words ... Seeing images but not being sure ! Then how one day Mary was crying for water ! Ma was in the bed , Pa was in the floor Jack trying to nudge Pa into awareness ! Ma finally asked Laura could she get the water ? Laura did and fell to her knees she crawled to take the water to Mary ! it was Jack that found help for the family !!! Hearing a the Dr that helped the Indians on the prairie he went out and persistently urged him to the house ! The Dr treated the Ingalls for 2 days when Mrs. Scott came ! She stayed till the family was well enough to care for themselves again ! I find it amazing the things that the settlers thought made them sick Mrs. Scott thought watermelon had made folks sick ... The Ingalls thought the cool night air was responsible .... It would be many years before they realized it was the mosquito's !!! We took the time to learn what causes our body to run a fever ! What controls our body temperature ... What steps should be taken to lower a fever. also whaen is a fever dangerous !!! We completed our other work for the day ! It was nice to be back in class today !!! Thanks to all who prayed for sissy and my Mom ! They both are doing much better !!!

Prairie School day 18

Little House on the Prairie Chapters 12 & 13

 Today we opened in prayer and devotion ! Our devotion today was all about the importance of not acting foolishly and not listening to instruction !!! The Ingalls new neighbor learned this lesson the hard way !!! By not heeding to what Pa said about sending a candle down the well to make sure the air safe ! He fell ill because of his foolish actions ! Our Scripture today came from Proverbs 23:12

 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

We talked about the importance to listening to others often they know more than we like to think .... 

Our chapters today was full of adventure and danger !!!! Today Pa built Ma a well so they wouldn't need to go to the river for water any more ! Pa was needing to make a trip to independence and he didn't want to leave Ma with out a well to get water from ! So Pa started the digging process !!! He dug until he wasn't able to dig anymore with out help . So Pa sought out the help of his neighbor . Pa traded work with Mr. Scott ! They both took turns digging Mr. Scott dug in the morning and Pa would dig in the evening ! Each day before anyone crawled down the rope Pa would light a candle and send it down in a bucket . If the candle stayed lit it meant the air was safe . If the light went out that meant there was dangerous gasses that were unsafe for the men to breathe ! One morning Mr. Scott arrived before Pa had finished breakfast ! Mr Scott had told Pa the day before that the whole candle business was a waste of time ! That morning Mr. Scott went on down the rope with out lighting a candle to check the air ! Much to Mr Scott's dismay there was gasses in the hole and Mr Scott passed out !!! if Pa had not acted quickly he would have died !!! The next day Pa almost got sucked in by quick sand !!! It was Mr Scott's fast working that saved Pa !!! God looked out for both men !!! The same day the well was complete ! Ma wouldn't have to use stagnate water any more just fresh cold water from the well !!! This chapter allowed us to study further how wells were dug ! The process of what it took to get to water . Also the dangerous gasses in the earth !!! We studied about quicksand and we discussed what to do if you encountered it . 

The next events helped the Ingalls obtain beef and a cow !!! Some cattle ranchers asked for Pa's help in exchange for a side of beef . Pa agreed it took two days for Pa to help get the cows over the ravine . when he came home the next day he not only had a side of beef but a calf and a cow !!! the cow was skinny and wouldn't bring enough at market and the calf would slow them down ! Ma and the girls were so excited !!! They hadn't had a cow since they left the big woods ! 

We had an amazing day today !!! After School we prepared for the Old Timey Autumn Pie Social we are hosting tomorrow !!! We are super excited !!! Hope everyone has a blessed weekend !!!

Prairie School day Day 18

Little House On the Prairie Ch 10 &11

We had another amazing day of homeschool ! We opened in prayer and devotion . Our devotion today was about listening to the instructions of our parents ! Even if a circumstance may come up that may make you feel as if you should something you were told not to do ! As Laura thought of doing today !!! Mary told Laura they shouldn't do what Pa told them not to do !!! In the end Mary was right !!! If Laura would have done what she knew not to do , the consequences could have been devastating !!!! The devil works on Christian this very same way ! enticing us to do things we know the Father above has told us not to do !!! We discussed the importance of doing what we were told also follow the things the word of God says is right! our scripture veres came from the book of Romans 13:1-3

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

² Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

³ For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

 Today's chapters were full of adventure again !!! Our story began today with Pa putting a real roof on the little house !!! Also placing a wooden floor down in the little house as well !!! Laura described  the childrens life as being busy even after chores !!! They spent their day playing , watching and discovering the prairie animals !!! Also how Ma stayed on to her over not wearing her sun bonnet !!! Ma told her and Mary they looked like little indian children they were so brown !!! Laura didn't like her sunbonnet because she could only see straight in front of her not all around her !!! Laura asked Pa again when would she see a papaoose! Ma wanted to know why in the worls she would want to see a wild child like that ! The next day pa was gonna build Ma a bed. Ma told him she was out of meat so he would have to go hunting !!! This morning insted of letting Jack go he chained him up to the barn ! Off Pa went . Jack as sad to be left behind ! So Laura and Mary stayed with Jack trying to cheer him up !!! Wasn't long Jack began to growl , Laura thought he may be growling at her and it frightend her ! It did't take long for Laura discovered it wasn't her but two indian men !!! They had gone into the house with Ma and baby Carrie ! Laura told Mary they should unchain Jack ! He would scare the indians away ! Mary reminded Laura that Pa told the under no circumstance not to unchain Jack !!! Laura listened to Mary and the girls darted into the house to find the two men standing in the middle of the cabin and Ma and Carrie by the hearth preparing corn cakes for the men !!! Laura commented of the aweful smell inside the house !!! It didn't take long to figure out what it was from , the two indian men had made a loin cloth out of fresh skunk hides !!! The men ate all the corn cake and took all of Pa's tobbacco and left !!!Ma held the girls close once they were gone !!! Thankful they were safe !When Pa returned they told Pa what had taken place ... Even how they had almost let Jack of his chain !!! Pa told the girls of what  bad  thing that could have taken place if Jack would have bitten the indian men ! It could have ment Jacks life even worse theirs !!!!

We took time out to study the sun today ... The good and bad ! The reasons we need to protect our skin !!! This a subject near and dear to us ! Sissy had to  a skin cancer removed form her hair line a few years ago ! It required a plastic surgeon and requried 26 stiches !!! From that point on we have been very careful not to be over exposed to the sun !!! We finished up our daily work ... Sissy started sewing a sun bonnett for her reborn baby today !!! we will post pics when she has completed hr project !!! We have had an awesome day today !!! We are very blessed ....

Prairie School day 17

Little House on the Prairie Ch 8-9

Today we opened in devotion and prayer ! A privilege I will never take for granted !
Our devotion today was all Genesis Ch 1. When God created the earth and all that was in it ! How He made man kind in His image , we are fearfully and wonderfully made ! He was pleased with his creation !!! Pa was also proud of his creation ! The doors he was able to make with out nails ! God instilled creativity in each of us! Our God is also creative just take a look at his creation around you !!!

Today's chapters were filled with creativity ! First Pa made a door for both the house and barn !!! He allowed Laura to help !!! I was amazed at the detail that went into this task !!! How skill full Pa was on the prairie !!! It also made me very thankful for the warm snug house I live in !!! Its cold here and has even been blowing snow !!! just a little ...

Our next chapter shared Pa's next project !!! A fire place ! So Ma wouldn't have to cook outside anymore ! Sissy and I talked about the simplicity of the materials used .... Rocks from the creek bed , mud , logs, and sticks. These were the only materials used !!! It is crazy how much our world has changed !!!! I loved at the end of the chapter when Laura shared how she was happy to be living inside a house again . Ma placed her china doll on the mantle of the new fire place ! Placed a table cloth on the new table Pa made , and spoke of the quilts were on the bed making it feel more like a home ... 

Our homeschool day has been busy and full of fun activities !!!!
 The first thing we did was discuss the cause and effect of smoke inhalation . Sissy made a poster for our school room.

  Our next activity of the day was making a willow broom like Ma uses ! We have willow tree at friends house we were able to gather branches from her tree ! It was not as hard as we thought it would be to make ... However it isn't as efficient as the broom we use now !!! we tested both out to see which was a better choice !!!

 Our next activities of the day was washing clothes on a wash board ! and Ironing with a sat-iron ! We took time discuss how far technology has brought us today !!! How long it would take to complete your household chore using these methods ! Her favorite chore was washing the clothes ! We have the honor of using my Great Grandma's wash board !!! We live in such a blessed era !
