Little House On The Prairie Ch7

Wolves 

 Today we opened in prayer and devotion !!! Our devotion today was 2 fold ...  We discussed how God designed the structure of the as the Father to be the protector of the family ! Pa rushed home to his family scared the pack 0f 50 wolves had beet him there ! The Bible teaches us that the devil will also come a wolf dressed in sheep's clothing seeking whom he may devour ! Praise God the Father who protects us daily against the whiles of devil !!! Our scripture we used today  came from the book of 

Psalms 82:3

 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

Our chapter today was about wolves ! Pa and Mr Edwards finished the barn for Pet and Patty ! Even built a roof ... That night the horses slept protected from the dangers of wolves !!! The next morning much to Laura's delight she woke to find in the barn a new colt !!! With large ears as Laura would say ! The new colts name would be Bunny ! How ever Pet wasn't to sure about the kids being near her colt .  She often nipped and showed her teeth to the children to remind them to keep their distance ...

That same day Pa went out on Patty to survey the land ... leaving behind his gun because the family had plenty of meat for now ... To see what the prairie had to behold ... Along the way He discoverd new neighbors ! The Scotts who had 5 children , 2 bachelors who shared the same house but two property lines ... and a family who caught the ague which today is known to us as Malaria . Pa spent quite a bit of time visiting with each new friend but the longest with the bachelors ... It was on the way home he met the sick family ! He found two young children caring for the parents ... So Pa returned back to the bachelors home for help ! Then he headed home , much later than expected !it was then Pa would encounter the wolf pack ... The wolves would ride side by side Pa and Patty never harming neither ... In the mean time Jack started to act funny ... so did Pet and Bunny ... wasn't long Pa skidded in with Patty ... Pa explained what had happened during supper ! That night Laura awoke to wolves just out side the little cabin !!! Pa was standing guard at the window with his gun ! He asked Laura would she like to see ? Of course she would ! It was then she realized the wolves surrounded the little cabin .... Pa kept the family safe that night standing guard ! He went on to tell Ma they couldn't wait a day more for a proper door ...

We spent this afternoon learning about wolves ... their habits life cycle and their enemies...

We also spent time today learning about mosquito's ... I loved Sissy's favorite part about them ! She said it was their life cycle because they only lived 2 wks ! lol ! She also studied up on Malaria its symptoms , causes and cure ... She wrote a fictional encounter about Malaria !!! We discussed Pa and Mas thoughts that caused the Ague was wrong ... it wasn't the damp air by the creek . It was the infected mosquito bite.We finished up all of our other studies ... then we did some old fashioned visiting of our own today . With a shut in from our church ... I am excited about the rest of the week we have a lot of activities planned this week !!!!

Prairie School Day 15

Little House Ch.5&6

Today we started our day in devotion and prayer our devotion today was about fear in being alone ... Laura didn't like being alone on the prairie with out the wagon being there with Ma , Mary , baby Carrie , and herself . The Psalmist experienced the same feeling !!! 
Psalm 8:3-9 says 
 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
⁴ What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
⁵ For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
⁶ Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
⁷ All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
⁸ The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
⁹ O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
We disscussed that we should never be scared because God is always with us ! Also when we do get scared all we have to do is call upon the Lord !
Today we read chapters 5 & 6 . The Ingalls family have found where they want to build there home !!! So Pa and Ma made a make shift camp to do till the new cabin could be built !!! Pa would spend quite a bit of time cutting logs . It didn't take time for Pa to start the foundation of the new cabin !!! Soon he and ma would stack the logs to build the walls !!! When the family least expected it Ma had an accident and sprain her ankle ... This caused a delay on the building of the cabin !!! However this didn't stop ma from doing her daily work !!! Laura said it best when she said it just had to do it a little slower ! Then God sent them a blessing !!! A neighbor !!! Mr Edwards !!! I always loved him !!! Any ways He and Pa were able to to trade out work with each other ! Mr Edwards was able to help Pa finish the cabin walls and Pa would help him build his when Ingalls is completed !!!Pa told ma that as soon as he helped Edward he would put a barn up for pet and patty ! Then he would put a proper roof on the cabin insted of the canvas used on the wagon !!! He would also dig the family a well , put a proper floor in the cabin before winter , build a fire place , table , chairs and beds by winter !!! Ma asked for a clothes line ..... 
We took the oppertuntity to learn about sprains and the first aid for sprains today !!! We also talked about the blood function !!! How the blood clots !

Pa told Ma today that he could live here on the prairie forever !!! even if it did get over crowded !!! He told Laura that he thought the Indians were on their annual hunt was the reason they hadn't seen on yet ! Ma told pa she wished that sending letter was eaiser to her family ... However the nearest Postal Post is 40 miles away !!! She knew there family had no idea where they ended up at or if they were ok ... It would just have to wait till Pa went town !!! We took this oppertunity to learn about the USPS and the pony express !!! 

 We are very thankful that our mail doesn't take months to recieve !!! and that for the most part we are insured it will arrive !!! I can't wait till next week we have lots of fun things in store !!! We have had a blessed day !!! Hope everyone has an amazing weekend !!!!

Prairie School Days 14

  

Little House Chapters 3&4 

Today we opened in prayer and devotion ! Our devotion today was on forgiveness ! Our Scripture came from 1 John 1:9 

  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We talked about the importance of forgiveness not just to each other ...  Also to be sure to ask the Lord to forgive us so we to can be forgiven ! I am so glad that God doesn't remember my faults ...

 Today we continued our journey through our Little House book !!! We read today that Pa and Ma may have found the place to where they will settle 40 miles from Independence the closest city ! Pa made a fire break so Ma could prepare the evening meal for the family ! This was very important so the entire Prairie didn't catch on fire ! Pa was  pleased with the land because water was close by and plenty of game to feed his family ! How ever that night the Ingalls were surprised by a visitor !!! To my surprise the animal did not cause a stir with Pet and Patty the horses !!! I was pleasantly surprised when Jack  returned to his family !!! It was such a happy reunion for both Jack and his family !!!!

The next morning Pa set out to find meat for supper that evening ! Leaving Ma and the girls to there chores ! Ma washed the families bed clothes , under garments , and there everyday clothes in a wash basin and a wash board . Ma laid the clothes out to dry on the prairie grass !!! They tidied camp ! The girls tried very hard to catch a gopher !!! To no avail ... They even brought  brought Ma some flowers and she placed them in a tin cup and displayed them on the wagon ! This was certainly to be there home for some time !Laura asked Ma if  they were in Indian country ? Ma really couldn't answer Laura ! She only told her in so many words that even if they were the Indians wouldn't be there long because the government would see to it !!! Pa did bring fresh meat to camp for dinner !!! The family enjoyed rabbit and prairie hens ... It still humbles me the things we take for granted ... Today we learned bout the Osage Indians . This tribe was located in Kansas long before the settlers ! We took the opportunity to discuss how we felt about how they were pushed from their land ...Sissy wrote a paper sharing her thoughts about how she would have handled the land issue ! I was touched at such a heart felt paper !!! She told me she would have taken in account that the Indians were here first !!! That we should have been more respectful to there way of living !  we should have asked and worked together to live in harmony instead of demanding and taking !!!! 

We also learned the molasses process ... The nutritional value it holds .  compared the differences between the  molasses and sugar.We learned that molasses are much better for us than the refined sugar . We are such a blessed family ! I am so grateful for all the things God provides us with daily !!! God is good ....

Prairie School day 14

Little House Ch. 1&2 

  Today we started Our Little House On the Prairie Book !!! It was nice to get started back after a week off !!! We Opened in prayer and devotion this morning !!! Our Bible lesson came from Mark 7:1-23 ! Because of how long the scriptures we read were so long I decided not to post them today !You ca find them however at www.biblegateway.com Our devotion however was about complaining ! Laura complained about being tired and bored .... Ma told her to hush ! although she did hush outwardly she did not hush inwardly ! The Bible teaches us we should be content in all we do with out complaining !Isn't like us to complain about things around us ?  We discussed the importance of being content ! I sure am glad I serve a forgiving Heavenly Father !
 We read chapters one and two ! I was amazed at how quick Pa and Ma decided to move west !!! Also at what they left behind !!! It amazed both Sissy and myself the small space to pack the belongings a family of 5 would need for such a trip !!! We discussed how we would feel to only be able to take some things and leaving others behind ! How it would be a bitter sweet feeling ! So we learned about the wagon the Ingalls would have used ! The space they would have had ! Then we marked a 4x10 ft space in our school room ! I gave sissy a list of things she could load in her wagon space and told her to choose things that she thought would be important !!! I was  pleasantly surprised that her whole collection of her A Life Of Faith Chapter Books went into the wagon !!! each book for all 5 girls !!!  She brought along her reborn baby as her child and even packed for her !!! She took time to think all the things through ! clothes ,food, things to cook with , butter churn , wash board ,water pitcher and basin , clothes , blankets , Bible , lantern and gun !!! She covered all her basic supplies and then placed a special memento in her trunk that belonged to her great grandma ! Below you will find some pictures of our journey today !!!
We studied about Mustang horses !!! How they were almost wiped out after the expansion ! We discussed how the rugged ride must have been hard for the animals and family both !!! especially poor Jack !!! I almost cried when I realized Jack wasn't with the  family when they crossed the river !!! The sadness Laura described !!! Then when she said she couldn't cry because it wouldn't be acceptable broke my heart ..... We finished our school day with Math and other activities .... We plan to spend our evening baking homemade bread together !!! I feel so blessed to be a home school Mom !!!

Prairie School day 14

Prairie School week 14 

Today we finished all loose ends to our Little House in the Big Woods Book !!! 

We opened in devotion and Prayer . Our devotion was on respect ! The importance to respect all of those around us even when it hard .... Our Scripture verses came from Matthew 5:43-48

 ⁴³ Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

⁴⁴ But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
⁴⁵ That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
⁴⁶ For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
⁴⁷ And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
⁴⁸ Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
 We finished all of our work for the week !!! Our day today wasn't very exciting lol ... We made sure all I had planned was finished ... We are very excited about the up coming book !!! This will be my last post for this week ... I will be attending the Come Unto Me Conference at the Cove .... Starting tomorrow !! I am super excited ! I also have given myself a week break between each book to prepare my school room for our next book ! My daughter is a visual learner so I try to keep our school room exciting and on cue with what we are doing ... Can't wait to share our new adventures !!! Praire School day 13

Prairie School Day 13 

 Today we opened with prayer and devotion !!! We talked today how the devil will use depression against us !!! That even though these things happen in our life The Lord will always see us through !!! He sees the end when we only see the beginning ! Our scripture verse came from the book of Isaiah 40:31

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Today we learned about the California Gold Rush ! We discussed how discovery of gold caused greed , cost the miners more money , than they were making , cost many lives ! We talked about the uses of gold ... then and today ! We are fortunate to have the first gold mine in our state and hope to visit it next week if at all possible ! We also talked about her very first memory that really stuck out to her ! She shared the memory of her and her God sister having a tea party together !!! She drew pictures to go along with it ...

We also worked on our other school activities ... We also talked about the chore of making clothes for a family and what it would take to prepare for a wagon journey that Ingalls are about to take in there next book ! So we spent some time today making peasant shirts for a activity in the future !!! We had a good time working on this project together !!! Here are some pictures of our sewing project !!! Prairie School Day 12

   Today we opened with devotion and prayer ! We talked about Peer Pressure ... How the pressures of this world try to take our eyes of Christ !  It penetrates our hearts and changes the way we see things ! In the world we live in today young girls face so many things ! they aren't thin enough , or they shouldn't play but act as if they are adults , to not be Christian's , the list goes on and on !!! The verse we used today came from Galatians 1:10

 
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

 We talked about the importance of protein in our diet !!! We discussed how in our last chapter that Pa missing the game to kill ment the family would be without meat for awhile !!! We discussed 4 other sources of protein !!! Eggs, Cheese , Beans , and Nuts !!!

The we read a biography on  LOUIS PASTEUR . He was a famous Chemist and Biologist !

He is famous for the Germ Theory ,  Spontaneous Generation , Pasteurization , and the Rabies Vaccine !!! We gained many wonderful things from this man !!!  Sissy wrote a report on what she learned !!! we did our other daily school things !!!  We took time today to talk about our favorite part of the Little House In the Big Woods Book !!! Sissy's was the chapter about going to town !!!  I am so blessed to be able to home school !!! I can't wait till tomorrow we have a sewing project !
